For games using standard cards, I recommend cribbage and eucher. Cribbage is usually played with 2-4 players, but I've played with as many as 6 at a time. The basic rules are fairly straight forward, but there is a lot of strategy involved. You will need a cribbage board though. Eucher is a four player game. It goes fast and is easy to learn. Once all players get to a certain skill level though, the cards can practically play themselves.

If you want to get into a TCG, I strongly recommend Shadowfist as the best multiplayer game. Cost of entry is low. There is lots of strategy. Game play is fast and furious. No one is eliminated from the game, and players always have a chance to do something. They don't waste a lot of time just waiting for their turn. The player base is very friendly.

When my husband and I were to be married I came up with the suggestion of a casino night (his brother has a mini-casino in his home) Each person paid the house to play, then they had to buy chips if they lost the $25 dollars in chips they were given at the door. They had to buy their own drinks as well, everything was done with the knowledge that the money was to be split between the groom and his brother (to help defer the cost of the party) my husband came home with quite a bit of money.

For blackjack, 2-10 = face value, J-K = 10, A = 1 or 11 (your choice)

For poker, the exact rules for number of cards, how they're dealt, betting rules and the like vary from game to game but the method of determing who wins a hand (assuming at least two go to a showdown) is fairly constant: each player makes the best 5-card hand from the cards available to them and the high hand wins. The order of hands from highest to lowest:

Five of a kind (possible only if wild cards are in play)
Straight flush (cards all same suit and in order - the best of these is AKQJT of same suit and called a Royal Flush)
Four of a kind
Full House (Thee of a kind + a pair)
Flush (all of same suit but not in sequence)
Straight (all five in sequence, but 2 or more suits)
Three of a kind
Two pair
One pair
High card

If the primary part of the hands are equal, the other cards (kickers) are used to determine who wins. If all equal, hands tie. (Example, X has TT853 and Y TT863 - both have a pair of tens with 8 primary kicker, but the Y wins because his secondary 6 kicker beats X's secondary 5 kicker.)

If the count has a high positive value, you have the advantage. If it has a high negative value, the dealer has the advantage.

The more + you get, the better your odds get. When the count is good towards the end of the card shoe, you can really clean up, so it's best to increase your steak.

Usually a true count of +3 is considered hot. Thats when I jump in. U need more than just card counting to be successful . Basic stra. says to hit a hard 12 vs. dealers 3 up. But if true count is +2, youre supposed to stand. Thats just one of many things you should do when count gets high.
